Job description

Shape the future of power electronics with Siemens

Siemens Digital Industries Motion Control is on a clear journey to become the undisputed #1 in our market. Innovation, technology leadership and exceptional people are at the heart of this ambition. Our products include advanced power electronic converter systems and variable speed drives (VSDs) spanning hundreds of watts to tens of kilowatts and 200 - 690 V. These technologies enable our customers to improve machine performance, energy efficiency and digitalisation across industrial automation, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace and data centre applications. As part of the Siemens Competence Centre for Power Electronics, our UK Power Electronics Technology & Innovation team develops the technologies that will shape the next generation of Motion Control Automation products. We are looking for an Innovation Engineer – Power Electronics to join our team at Siemens.

The Role

You will work within an international innovation team across the UK and Germany, developing and demonstrating innovative power electronics technologies, concepts and methodologies that can ultimately be transferred into future Siemens products. This is a R&D role, combining engineering design, simulation, prototyping, testing and technology exploration. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge technologies, universities, research organisations and technology partners in the UK and internationally. The role is based at our flagship Siemens Congleton site, with regular travel to our Power Electronics Innovation Hub satellite site in Newport, as well as occasional travel to Siemens HQ in Germany, universities and research centres.

What You Will Do
  • Develop and prototype innovative power electronics technologies for next‑generation products.
  • Design, simulate, build and test new converter concepts and technologies.
  • Develop innovative AI powered solutions for future products and processes.
  • Explore emerging technologies, materials, components and power semiconductor solutions.
  • Investigate advanced power electronics assembly, packaging and construction techniques.
  • Develop digital models and simulations to support technology development
  • Perform hands‑on laboratory testing, debugging and technology validation.
  • Contribute to product development and product verification activities.
  • Work with international teams, universities, research centres and technology partners to bring new ideas into Siemens.
  • Help identify innovations to improve performance, efficiency, cost, reliability and sustainability.
What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about power electronics and innovation and enjoys turning ideas into practical engineering solutions.

You should have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control engineering, Power Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience with simulation tools e.g., MATLAB/Simulink prototyping, testing or laboratory‑based validation development.
  • Experience of designing or applying advanced semiconductor devices
  • Understanding of schematic design and PCB design/layout tools
  • Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • A creative and curious mindset with a passion for solving complex engineering problems.
  • A willingness to experiment, learn from failure and continuously develop your technical knowledge.

Nice to have, but not essential:

  • Experience specifying and testing electronics components and materials
  • Knowledge of industrial standards for achieving robust, compliant converter designs.
  • German language skills are a bonus, but not essential
Why join us?
