Job summary

Sudlows is seeking an experienced Infrastructure & Systems Engineer to support, maintain and develop internal IT infrastructure across Manchester and Oldham, with remote locations. You will work with the IT Service Desk, handle infrastructure administration, platform engineering, and automation while owning infrastructure projects and security improvements.

Qualifications

• Extensive IT infrastructure experience with Windows environments.
• Strong Windows Server administration and AD/GP skills.
• Experience with Hyper-V, SQL Server, and RDS environments.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Hybrid deployments and Intune.
• PowerShell automation and scripting capabilities.
• Familiarity with backup, DR, and security controls.

Infrastructure & Systems Engineer

Due to continued growth and expansion, Sudlows is looking to recruit an experienced Infrastructure & Systems Engineer.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of IT, you will play a key role in supporting, maintaining and developing Sudlows' internal IT infrastructure.

Whilst initially working closely with end users and the IT Service Desk to gain a strong understanding of our environment, the primary focus of this role is infrastructure administration, platform engineering, cybersecurity, automation and project delivery.

You will work alongside our Infrastructure & M365 Engineer and act as an escalation point for complex technical issues while taking ownership of infrastructure projects and continuous service improvements.

The role will be based across our Manchester and Oldham offices and supporting remote locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Windows Server infrastructure.


• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy and access controls.


• Support and maintain Hyper-V environments.


• Server migrations, infrastructure upgrades and refresh projects.


• Support and implement SQL Server, IIS and Remote Desktop Services environments.


• Maintain backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.


• Monitor, patch and secure servers, endpoints and infrastructure platforms.


• Assist with Microsoft 365 Hybrid, Azure/Entra and Intune administration.


• Support network infrastructure including switching, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs and WAN connectivity.


• Manage cybersecurity controls, vulnerability remediation and endpoint protection.


• Contribute to Cyber Essentials Plus compliance and ongoing security initiatives.


• Develop automation processes using PowerShell and management tools.


• Produce and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams and knowledge base articles.


• Act as a technical escalation point for the IT Service Desk team.


• Participate in infrastructure planning and project delivery activities.

Skills & Experience

• 6-8+ years of IT infrastructure experience.


• Strong Windows Server administration experience.


• Experience managing Active Directory and Group Policy.


• Experience with Hyper-V environments.


• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Hybrid deployments.


• Experience supporting and migrating SQL Server, IIS and Remote Desktop Services.


• Understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, switching, VLANs, WANs and VPNs.


• Exposure to firewall administration, ideally Sophos XGS or similar next-generation firewalls.


• Experience with patch management and vulnerability remediation.


• Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions.


• Experience with Microsoft Intune and device management.


• PowerShell administration and automation experience.


• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.


• A proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent customer service awareness.
