Job summary

Hackajob Ltd in Farnborough is seeking a senior Infrastructure/Platform Architect for a customer-facing, onsite role in the System Design Team. You will contribute infrastructure and platform expertise to end-to-end solution architecture, governance and assurance.

You will review supplier designs, provide guidance on VCF/NSX, Kubernetes/OpenShift, IaC (Ansible/Terraform), and secure by design practices, working with security and delivery partners.

Qualifications

• Substantial IT infrastructure experience, including infrastructure, platform or solution architecture roles.
• Experience generating, reviewing and assuring Service Designs and High-Level Designs (HLDs) in complex environments.
• Customer-facing experience with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, architects and engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure architecture across compute, storage, networking, backup, recovery, virtualization, platform management and observability.
• Familiarity with IAM, IDAM / IGA, PAM, authentication, federation and directory services.
• Experience with Secure by Design, security assurance and risk management.
• Ability to work across customer, System Design Team and delivery-supplier organisations.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of infrastructure and platform viewpoints within the end-to-end Solution Architecture.
• Provide architecture guidance across VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), NSX, compute, storage, backup, recovery, networking, management and shared platform services.
• Review and assure supplier-produced Service Designs, HLDs and supporting artefacts against requirements, policies, standards and architectural direction.
• Work with supplier designers early to clarify design intent, identify dependencies and reduce rework.
• Apply Secure by Design principles and support security assurance throughout the capability lifecycle.
• Collaborate with security specialists and risk owners to ensure evidence for security decisions.
• Assess platform integration with IAM/IDAM/IGA, PAM, authentication and directory services.
• Provide architecture guidance for container platforms (OpenShift, Kubernetes) where applicable.
• Promote infrastructure-as-code practices using Ansible, Terraform and Git-based workflows.
• Contribute to integration, test, migration, and readiness planning.
• Provide clear infrastructure and platform advice to stakeholders and leadership.
• Facilitate workshops and design reviews with technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• Substantial IT infrastructure experience, including significant experience in infrastructure, platform or solution architecture roles.
• Experience generating, reviewing and assuring Service Designs and High-Level Designs (HLDs) in complex, multi-supplier or regulated environments.
• Customer-facing experience, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, architects and engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure architecture across compute, storage, networking, backup, recovery, virtualisation, platform management and observability.
• Strong VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and NSX knowledge, including platform lifecycle, resilience, management and workload considerations.
• Understanding of Kubernetes and container platforms, such as Red Hat OpenShift or VMware Tanzu.
• Understanding of infrastructure automation and configuration management, including Ansible, Terraform, Git-based workflows and CI/CD controls.
• Familiarity with IAM, IDAM / IGA, PAM, authentication, federation and enterprise directory services.
• Experience with Secure by Design, security assurance and technical risk management.
• Strategic perspective combined with sufficient technical depth to assess designs and challenge supporting evidence.
• Ability to work effectively where responsibilities are shared across customer, System Design Team and delivery-supplier organisations.
• Must be eligible to meet UK Government and contractual personnel security requirements, including applicable residency requirements, and have the right to work in the United Kingdom. Some roles may also be subject to nationality requirements where necessary to meet security obligations.

• Provide architecture guidance for container platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift and VMware Tanzu, where applicable.
• Promote repeatable, supportable infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management practices using tools such as Ansible and Terraform, and controlled Git-based workflows.
• Contribute to integration, test, migration, transition and operational-readiness planning, including cross-service dependencies and acceptance evidence.
• Provide clear infrastructure and platform advice to customer stakeholders and architecture leadership within the scope delegated to the role.
• Facilitate workshops and design reviews, presenting options, risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
