Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Associate Planner to support town planning and consent inputs on major infrastructure projects. You will operate within a multidisciplinary team to drive consenting strategies, secure approvals, and interact with clients and statutory bodies.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical advisory skills, and the ability to coordinate complex consent applications across regimes, while contributing to the team’s knowledge base and project finances.

Qualifications

• Experience leading town planning/consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects.
• Ability to coordinate consent applications under Town and Country Planning Acts and Planning Act 2008.
• Strong client advisory and stakeholder negotiation skills.
• Line management or mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Managing or leading aspects of the town planning or consenting inputs on major infrastructure projects (DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs etc).
• Providing technical advice to clients and managing their consenting requirements demonstrating awareness of client’s expectations and needs.
• Co-ordinating the preparation and submission of consent applications which may include applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts, the Planning Act 2008 or other regimes (as listed above).
• Supporting negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
• Lead engagement with teams across a variety of disciplines, providing technical oversight.
• Actively supports and contributes to achievement, building positive relationships within project and discipline teams.
• Proactively develops own knowledge and skills to build ability and team’s internal knowledge base.
• Solid understanding of project finances and project management experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
• Line management / mentoring colleagues by supporting them in their work project delivery roles.
