Job summary

Orbis Group seeks a Technical Infrastructure Manager to own the infrastructure function and guide a small team. You will be the technical owner, hands-on 80% with 20% management, overseeing Azure, Windows Server, M365, Entra ID, Intune, and VMware across a hybrid setup.

You’ll drive Azure migration, automation, and standardisation, while shaping a 3-year roadmap and mentoring a small team. Collaboration with DevOps is essential for modernisation and security.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, M365, Entra ID/Active Directory, Intune, Windows Server and VMware.
• Experience mentoring a small technical team or leading critical technical projects.
• Curiosity about AI-enabled operational tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own and configure, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure across Azure, Windows Server, M365, Entra ID, Intune and VMware.
• Lead cloud work: Azure adoption, automation, and standardisation; engage in IaC and modernisation initiatives.
• Own security and resilience: vulnerability management, patching, pen tests coordination, audits (3–4 per year), backups and DR planning.

Job description

Our client is a well-established, publicly listed investment management firm managing over $100bn in assets for institutional clients. With offices across London, Zurich, New York, and Germany, they're looking for a Technical Infrastructure Manager to own their infrastructure function and guide a small team.

You'll inherit a small team (1 Senior Engineer + 2 support engineers, plus close collaboration with a DevOps Engineer) and report directly to the CTO, the expectation is 80% hands-on, 20% management. If you've become detached from the tech in your current role, this probably isn't for you. If you're a Senior/Lead Infrastructure Engineer who wants a step up, then this could be a great opportunity.

You’ll play a key role by...

• Being the technical owner, not just the manager: Personally configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting infrastructure across Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, M365, Entra ID, Intune, and a VMware-based server estate.
• Leading (and doing) the cloud work: Driving Azure adoption, automation, and standardisation, with scope to work closely on infrastructure-as-code and modernisation initiatives.
• Owning security and resilience: Taking meaningful ownership of vulnerability management, patching, penetration testing coordination, and audit engagement (3-4 audits per year), plus backup and disaster recovery, including a live RFP for new DR solutions.
• Shaping a 3-year roadmap: Contributing directly to a newly signed-off infrastructure strategy, including a future move away from the current on-prem/VMware stack toward a new target architecture.
• Developing a small team: Mentoring and setting standards for your team.
• Being a sounding board: Our client wants someone who asks "why," challenges decisions constructively, and proposes improvements.
