Position: Infrastructure Engineer

Location: Farnborough (Hampshire) Office, UK (Hybrid)

Job Description:

SS8 is seeking a hands-on experienced Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in installation, maintenance, problem management, testing, and documenting SS8’s infrastructure supporting Intelligence products. The role primarily focuses on VMware and Windows Server infrastructure but also offers opportunities to work with Linux administration, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies.

The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in Farnborough for 3 days a week and must have a valid UK driving license, as the role involves ad hoc travel to customer sites and international travel.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Responsible for field installation & support of infrastructure hosting SS8 Products in secure environments.
• Ensure all client PCs and servers are appropriately hardened and secured according to CESG guidance and industry best practices.
• Manage Domain Controller roles, ensure high availability, and monitor replication.
• Implement periodic patching schedules for all client PCs and Windows Servers.
• Deploy and configure antivirus solutions for servers and workstations.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain SIEM solutions.
• Document procedures and provide knowledge transfer across teams.
• Assist customers with hardware and software upgrades.
• Coordinate the introduction of new infrastructure.
• Help with equipment configuration and provide training on infrastructure operations.
• Provide remote support and participate in troubleshooting conference calls.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for 24x7 support.

Position Specific Competencies/Skills:

Essential:

• Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
• Commercial experience in an infrastructure role
• Experience with Microsoft Exchange, VMware vSphere, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
• Experience with WSUS, security baselines, server hardening
• Networking fundamentals: LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls

Understanding of network and IT security

Excellent customer service and communication skills

Ability to travel

Desirable:

• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux systems
• Experience with NAS (NetApp or Dell)
• Experience with SIEM solutions
• Experience with Atlassian Confluence
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments

Experience and Education:

• BA/BS in a technology-related field (preferred)
• 5+ years in high-tech, preferably telecom
• Willing to travel and hold a driver’s license
• Willing to acquire or hold Security Clearance
