The role

As an Infrastructure Development Director, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll lead the strategic development and delivery of major infrastructure programmes that support the future of UK defence. You’ll be instrumental in shaping and executing capital investment plans for facilities that enable submarine maintenance and operations. This is a high-impact leadership role where your decisions will influence national capability, drive innovation, and leave a lasting legacy.

Day-to-day, you’ll drive strategic facilities projects by leading capital programme delivery, shaping project strategies, building portfolio capability, and managing stakeholder relationships to ensure alignment and compliance.

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans for major facilities projects aligned with business goals.
  • Leading the prioritisation and delivery of capital programmes to meet specification, schedule, and cost.
  • Building capability to manage complex portfolios and drive continuous improvement.
  • Creating differentiated project strategies including delivery, procurement, and contracting approaches.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and ensuring compliance across programmes.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Infrastructure Development Director
  • Proven experience developing programmes from design through to delivery.
  • Leading large teams in a matrix environment.
  • Managing extensive programme portfolios.
  • Navigating union relationships and involvement.
  • Creating and managing board-level business cases.
Qualifications for the Infrastructure Development Director
  • Degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Professional qualification such as Chartered Project Professional (ChPP), Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), or equivalent.
