Job summary

Oxford Brookes University seeks an Information Governance Officer to join the Information Assurance and Compliance team. You will independently manage a defined portfolio of information governance, providing expert advice on data protection, privacy and information rights across the university.

The role covers UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, PECR, FOI and EIR, plus emerging areas like AI governance and international data transfers.

Qualifications

• Substantial specialist experience in information governance, data protection and/or information security.
• Ability to interpret and apply complex legislation, regulatory guidance and professional standards independently.
• Experience of managing complex, sensitive or high-risk matters and translating requirements into clear advice and practical recommendations.
• Experience of managing a workload of compliance, assurance or improvement projects or activities.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage and develop a defined information-governance portfolio.
• Provide specialist advice on complex, sensitive and non-routine matters across the University.
• Support the University in meeting statutory, regulatory and contractual obligations through specialist advice, complex casework, assurance and improvement activity.
• Advise on information-governance implications of AI, including EU AI Act requirements.
• Provide practical advice on procurement, suppliers, contracts, research, data sharing and international transfers.
• Manage assigned information-rights casework, coordinate the information-governance response to incidents, lead projects and contribute to assurance reviews and training.
