Job summary

Northrop Grumman UK is recruiting an Industrial Placement Software Engineer in Cheltenham. You will contribute to cyber & intelligence software projects, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic Agile environment.

Starting September 2027, you will join a structured 12-month placement with mentored guidance and real responsibilities. You’ll work on developing clean, testable code, participate in design discussions and feature development, and learn how high-quality software is built for defence

Qualifications

Currently working towards a relevant degree in software engineering or computer science.
Strong passion for software development and computing.
Experience writing code in Python, Java or JavaScript; understanding of the SDLC.

Responsibilities

Help create clean, well-constructed and unit-tested code.
Complete development and support activities managed through the team’s Scrum board.
Assist with debugging and fault-finding for operational systems.
Support the design of features from the team’s product roadmap.
Work with the Product Owner and project stakeholders during design activities.
Contribute to sprint ceremonies, continuous improvement and team planning.
Write system tests under the guidance of the team’s test manager.
