Job summary

Northrop Grumman UK invites applications for an Industrial Placement Control Systems Engineer in London. The 12‑month placement starts September 2027 and is site‑based with flexible working options.

You will work on PLC, SCADA and industrial network technologies to design, integrate and test control systems for submarines, contributing to safe and secure mission outcomes. You will gain hands‑on experience throughout the design, development and testing process, supported by mentors and project

Qualifications

Currently working towards a degree in Electronics, Systems or Software Engineering or equivalent
Experience or knowledge of software development lifecycles, processes and procedures
Genuine interest in control systems, automation technologies and software development
Strong problem‑solving skills
Ability to develop effective solutions to technical issues

Responsibilities

Capture, interpret and develop customer requirements
Specify, design and test PLC and SCADA control system solutions
Develop PLC and SCADA code using block diagrams, flowcharts, pseudocode and other design formats
Validate software designs through structured analysis and testing
Produce accurate technical documentation in line with company procedures
Help diagnose faults and support existing solutions at customer sites across the UK
