Job summary

1120 NG UK Limited is offering a 12-month Industrial Placement as a Control Systems Engineer in New Malden, London. You'll gain practical engineering experience on PLC, SCADA and industrial networks, helping design, integrate and test control systems for submarines.

Starting September 2027, this site-based placement includes mentorship and a structured programme, with a focus on developing skills in requirements engineering, software testing and fault diagnosis across UK defence projects.

Qualifications

Currently working towards a degree in Electronics, Systems or Software Engineering or equivalent.
Experience or knowledge of software development lifecycles, processes and procedures.
Genuine interest in control systems, automation technologies and software development.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop effective solutions.
Interest in gaining practical experience within defence and technology environments.

Responsibilities

Capture, interpret and develop customer requirements
Specify, design and test PLC and SCADA control system solutions
Develop PLC and SCADA code using block diagrams, flowcharts, pseudocode and other design formats
Validate software designs through structured analysis and testing
Produce accurate technical documentation in line with company and customer procedures
Help diagnose faults and support existing solutions at customer sites across the UK
