Job summary

Grovelands Community Primary School, Hailsham, East Sussex, is hiring an Individual Needs Assistant for 30 hours per week, term-time only (25 hours + 5 hours Midday Supervisory Assistant duties). You will support an individual pupil within a mainstream setting, helping them access learning, build independence and engage with school life, working closely with the class teacher, SEND team and staff.

The role requires energy, patience and resilience; SEMH experience is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Knowledge or experience of SEMH needs is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Help the pupil overcome barriers to learning, support emotional wellbeing and encourage positive relationships, behaviour and engagement.

Individual Needs Assistant (25 hours per week) with Midday Supervisory Assistant Duties (5 hours per week)

Salary: Single Status Grade 3, Point 7
As this is a part-time, term-time-only position, the salary will be paid pro rata.
Actual salary: £24,796 FTE (£17,417 pro rata)

Wandle Learning Trust is looking to appoint an Individual Needs Assistant with Midday Supervisory Assistant duties to work 30 hours per week, term time only, at Grovelands Community Primary School. The successful candidate will support an individual pupils within our mainstream setting, helping them to access learning, develop their independence and engage positively in school life.

We are seeking an energetic, patient, caring and resilient individual who has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping every pupil reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SEND team and wider school staff to provide consistent, nurturing and appropriate support for the pupil. The role will involve helping the pupil to overcome barriers to learning, supporting their emotional wellbeing and encouraging positive relationships, behaviour and engagement.

Experience and knowledge of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs would be highly desirable. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who have experience supporting children who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, social interaction, anxiety or engagement with learning.

The successful candidate will be expected to work hard, contribute positively as part of our staff team and respond flexibly to the challenges and rewards of day-to-day school life. We are looking for someone who has high expectations of children and believes that, with the right support, every pupil can succeed.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience of working with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Have an understanding of, and experience supporting, children with additional needs.
  • Have knowledge and experience of SEMH needs; this is highly desirable.
  • Be patient, calm, caring and emotionally resilient.
  • Be able to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • Understand the importance of consistency, clear boundaries and positive behaviour support.
  • Be able to support a pupil's emotional wellbeing and help them develop strategies to manage their emotions and behaviour.
  • Have high expectations and encourage pupils to develop their independence and confidence.
  • Be able to adapt activities and approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Be committed to making learning engaging, enjoyable and accessible.
  • Be a positive and productive member of the school team.
