Indirect Tax Director

The Opportunity

A leading professional services firm is seeking an ambitious and commercially focused Indirect Tax Director to join its growing North of England team.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a highly regarded national indirect tax practice that advises a broad client base ranging from multinational groups and household-name retailers to financial services businesses and public sector organisations. The team works across the full spectrum of indirect taxes, including VAT, Customs Duties and Environmental Taxes, delivering both strategic advisory and compliance support.

The practice is experiencing significant growth and is looking for an individual who can help accelerate its market presence, develop long-term client relationships and contribute to the continued expansion of the business.

This role would suit either:

• An established Indirect Tax Director seeking a new challenge within a high-performing team; or
• A high-calibre Senior Manager with a strong business development track record looking to step up into a Director position.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth

• Build and strengthen relationships with senior stakeholders across existing and target clients.
• Lead business development initiatives, identifying opportunities and converting them into profitable engagements.
• Prepare and deliver proposals, tenders and client presentations.
• Develop new client relationships and expand existing accounts.
• Drive growth across both domestic and international markets.

Client Leadership

• Act as a trusted adviser to clients on complex indirect tax matters.
• Lead the delivery of VAT-focused advisory projects while maintaining exceptional client service standards.
• Provide strategic insight that aligns technical tax solutions with clients’ commercial objectives.
• Manage key client relationships and become a recognised market expert.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Build strong relationships across tax, legal and advisory service lines to identify cross-service opportunities.
• Collaborate with specialists across the wider business to deliver integrated client solutions.
• Mentor, inspire and develop junior team members and future leaders.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-performing team culture.

Technical Excellence

• Provide clear, practical and commercially focused advice on complex indirect tax matters.
• Review technical analysis and deliverables to ensure the highest standards of quality and risk management.
• Stay current on legislative developments and emerging market trends.
• Serve as a subject matter expert within the practice and broader business.

About You

We’re looking for an individual who can combine technical expertise with commercial acumen and leadership capability.

You will ideally bring:

• Significant indirect tax experience, with a strong focus on VAT advisory.
• A proven track record of winning work and developing client relationships.
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify and convert opportunities.
• Experience working within a professional services environment or an in‑house indirect tax function.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior client contacts.
• Experience collaborating with tax, legal, finance and advisory professionals across multiple disciplines.
• Strong project management and organisational capabilities.
• The ability to communicate complex technical matters in a clear and compelling way.
