Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an Independent Prescribing Optometrist to join our Corneal and Cataract Services across Ophthalmology. You will work within a team of ~40 optometrists providing high-quality specialist eye care across eight departments.

The role emphasizes autonomous clinical decision-making, with mentorship and potential for staff development and managerial tasks. Primary base at Gartnavel General Hospital, with site mobility as needed.

Qualifications

• BSc Optometry degree or equivalent.
• Current General Optical Council Registration.
• Independent Prescribing Diploma required.
• Advanced slit lamp examination skills.
• Advanced experience with VOLK examination techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Sound clinical decision-making ability.

Responsibilities

• Work within specialist anterior eye clinics for assessment, management and ongoing care of complex corneal and cataract conditions.
• Include specialist contact lens fitting and management.
• Keratoconus monitoring and treatment.
• Cataract assessment services and general corneal clinics.
• Manage patients with anterior eye disease and participate in referrals.
