Job summary

University of the Arts London is seeking an experienced pattern cutter and sample machinist to independently develop patterns and sew wearable garment samples for a fashion project.

The initial eight-hour paid sampling allocation focuses on flared trousers, with three to four samples planned and further paid work as the collection evolves. We value a strong eye for fit and construction.

Qualifications

• Experience in pattern cutting and sample sewing, with focus on tailored trousers.
• Portfolio or examples of relevant work demonstrating construction detail.

Responsibilities

• Interpret design references, measurements and garments supplied by the brand.
• Create or adapt a trouser pattern, cut fabric and sew a basic wearable first sample.
• Work toward an eight-hour allocation per sample with feasibility and construction details agreed beforehand.
• Review fit and proportions with the founder, implement pattern amendments and refinements.
• Flag construction issues or additional time required promptly.
• Supply resulting patterns and completed samples to the brand.
