The role requires a degree in engineering or science and demonstrable nuclear safety experience, with mentoring and training provided to achieve INA qualification.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent in an Engineering or Science based discipline.
  • Experience in Nuclear Safety areas of Structural Integrity or Nuclear Graphite.
  • Experience with safety case arrangements for higher category safety cases (author, verifier or case officer) desirable.
  • Appreciation of regulatory processes and practices, knowledge of Nuclear Power Plant theory, systems components and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent assurance that plant modifications are conceived, justified and implemented.
  • Contribute towards INA assurance that Plant is operated and maintained in accordance with the Safety Case.
  • Represent INA at technical meetings internally and with the ONR.
  • Conduct and reporting of surveillance and other activities in accordance with the Model of Internal Regulation.
  • Contribute to reporting of internal regulation activities to all levels in the Organisation.
  • Develop oversight arrangements for specific projects.

About the Role

We are recruiting for INA Assessment Branch Nuclear Safety Engineer to join our team.

Although the Contractual Location is Gloucester Business Park, we are offering a Flexible Working Location.

The Opportunity

Within the Assessment Branch, we have Nuclear Safety Engineers covering the breadth of technical disciplines required by the Company. As a qualified Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for the provision of internal regulation on nuclear safety, with a focus on Design and Safety Case aspects.

A key responsibility within this role will be the undertaking of Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) on proposed plant and safety case changes. In addition, you will be expected to provide advice and guidance on nuclear safety, licensing and compliance matters throughout the company and to support INA's wider assurance activities.

We have a wide portfolio covering generation, defueling, AGR life extension and Sizewell Long Term Operation, and this latter workstream is anticipated to provide work for a number of years to come.

We are also building links with our Internal Regulator colleagues in Hinkley C and Sizewell C organisations.

What you'll be doing

As an INA Assessment Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will carry out the following:

  • The provision of independent assurance (assessment) that plant modifications have been correctly conceived, justified and implemented
  • Contribute towards INA assurance that Plant is operated and maintained in accordance with the Safety Case
  • Represent INA at technical meetings both internally and with the ONR
  • Conduct and reporting of surveillance and other activities in accordance with the Model of Internal Regulation
  • Contribute to reporting of internal regulation activities to all levels in the Organisation
  • Developing and implementing oversight arrangements for specific projects

The role will require authorisation to and fulfilling of the Nuclear Safety Engineer Role in accordance with the Safety Case Management process. Appropriate mentoring and training will be provided to achieve this qualification.

Who you are

The ideal candidate for the INA Assessment Nuclear Safety Engineer role will have a Degree level or equivalent in an Engineering or Science based discipline and have demonstrable experience in the Nuclear Safety related areas of either Structural Integrity or Nuclear Graphite. Experience in other discipline areas will also be considered.

Practical experience in the application of safety case arrangements for higher category safety cases, such as author, verifier or case officer would be desirable.

An appreciation of regulatory processes and practices, thorough knowledge of Nuclear Power Plant theory, systems components and operation in order to assess compliance with the Nuclear Safety Case, Nuclear Site Licence and other legislation would be advantageous.

Skills and experience in Structural Integrity or Nuclear Graphite would be advantageous though we have space for the right candidate in other discipline areas

You will have an inquiring mind and demonstrate a strong questioning attitude to enable you to provide meaningful challenge to theCompany.Problem solving, decision-making, negotiation and influencing skills will also be crucial in this role.
