Job description

Independent Advocate x 2 - Vocal Advocacy
  • North Devon, East Devon, Devon Part Time £29,013 per annum, pro rata
Do you believe everyone deserves to have their voice heard?

As an Independent Advocate, you’ll help people with learning disabilities have greater choice, control and independence by supporting them to:

  • Understand their rights and stand up for them.
  • Express their views, wishes and feelings.
  • Make informed decisions about their lives.
  • Build confidence and have greater control over their future.

You’ll provide one-to-one, issue-based advocacy and help establish and facilitate peer advocacy groups, bringing people together to support one another, share experiences and make a positive difference in their communities.

This is a varied, community-based role.

You’ll meet people in their homes and other community settings across your locality, with regular travel, occasional visits to our Dartington office and administrative work from home.

We want our team to reflect the communities we serve. Each post is linked to a locality, but we recognise that geographical boundaries don’t always reflect people’s lives. We’re therefore open to discussing flexible arrangements around localities and working hours and will work with successful candidates to find an approach that works for everyone.

You don’t need to be an experienced advocate to apply.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about helping others, have relevant experience supporting people with learning disabilities, and can communicate effectively in a way that works for each individual. If you believe everyone deserves to be heard and have the opportunity to shape their own lives, we’d love to hear from you.
