Job summary

Veritas-Education-Recruitmen is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Assistant to support learners from early years through post-16 with a range of needs. You will assist with literacy, numeracy, sensory activities and social development, fostering an inclusive classroom environment.

Collaborating with teachers, support staff and external professionals, you will help manage behaviour and support emotional regulation, ensuring a safe learning space and positive progression for each pupil.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children or young adults with SEN or complex needs.
• Knowledge of autism, Down syndrome, sensory needs and communication difficulties.
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour using positive, appropriate strategies.
• A patient, caring and adaptable approach.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• A genuine passion for helping learners develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Responsibilities

• Support learners from early years through to post-16 across a range of abilities and needs.
• Provide academic support, including literacy, numeracy, sensory activities and interactive learning.
• Create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment both inside and outside the classroom.
• Support pupils with communication, social development and emotional regulation.
• Implement appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies when learners become distressed.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, senior leaders and external professionals to meet individual needs.
