Job summary

Westways Primary School is seeking a dedicated Inclusion Lead & SENDCO for a part-time role. You will lead SEND and pastoral provision, train support staff and work with families and agencies to raise standards.

The successful candidate will hold QTS, aim for NPQ SENCO, have SEND experience, manage EHCPs, oversee provision mapping, and lead safeguarding as DSL, ensuring every pupil achieves aspirational outcomes in a diverse, high‑achieving school.

Qualifications

• SENDCO leadership experience with improving pupil progress

The Governors of Westways Primary School are seeking a dedicated, inspirational, and innovative individual for the part-time post of Inclusion Lead & SENDCO. This key strategic role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced school leader looking to progress within a large, high-achieving, welcoming and diverse primary school.

The right candidate will lead SEND and pastoral provision, train support staff, and collaborate closely with families, external agencies, and the broader SENDCO network to drive high expectations and aspirational outcomes across the school. Applicants must hold - or be willing to achieve - the National Professional Qualification for SENCOs, possess relevant SEND experience, and demonstrate expertise in quality first teaching strategies alongside tools such as the Birmingham Toolkit and Sheffield Support Grid.

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for someone who has:

• A proven track record of success as a SENDCO and Inclusion Lead, with experience leading initiatives that improve pupil progress and raise standards.

• Strategic leadership skills to work alongside the Headteacher and SLT to manage, train and appraise a team of committed colleagues.

• A collaborative approach to working within the SLT to monitor the quality of education and oversee provision for all vulnerable learners (including EAL, Pupil Premium, and CLA) to close attainment gaps.

• Up-to-date, working knowledge of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and assessment tools.

• Expertise in managing statutory SEND paperwork (including EHCP applications and annual reviews), provision mapping and accurate record-keeping.

• The ability to oversee the day-to-day operation of the SEND policy while coordinating SEND, nurture, and pastoral provision across the school.

• The capability to develop our specialist hub provision and its curriculum for children with communication and interaction needs.

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with a practical, hands-on approach to modelling quality first teaching strategies for colleagues, supporting provision planning, classroom adaptations and leading pupil review meetings.
  

• A commitment to taking on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Designated Teacher for Children Looked After (CLA), ensuring child safety, protection and wellbeing are at the centre of all actions.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils, parents/carers and governors.

• The ability to work collaboratively with external agencies (Local Authority, health, social services, voluntary organisations) and the broader SENDCO network.

• Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple priorities in a large, busy school environment, including coordinating timetables for support staff, visiting professionals, and external agency referrals (e.g. PIP).
