Job summary

Barrington James is assisting a growing research organisation in recruiting an experienced Research Scientist to support preclinical and early clinical gene therapy programmes. The role focuses on in vivo studies in mice, with ocular/retinal and brain/CNS experience highly valued.

You will establish and execute in vivo studies from preclinical stages through early clinical development, contributing to a dynamic pipeline and cross-functional collaboration across R&D, quality, and regulatory teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on in vivo experience using mice.
  • Experience with technically challenging or specialised in vivo procedures.
  • Experience within gene therapy, ideally AAV-based gene therapy.
  • Experience writing study reports, SOPs, and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design, establish and execute in vivo gene therapy studies in mice.
  • Take studies from setup through execution, data interpretation and reporting.
  • Develop and optimise in vivo potency and safety assays for gene therapy programmes.
  • Work with ocular/retinal, brain or CNS models, including specialised procedures.
  • Support development and evaluation of AAV-based gene therapies and readouts.
  • Troubleshoot studies and develop new experimental workflows.
  • Analyze and interpret preclinical data to progress programmes to the clinic.
  • Produce high-quality study reports, SOPs and work instructions.
  • Contribute to establishment of new in vivo models and lab processes.
  • Collaborate across R&D, quality, regulatory and compliance functions.
