Job summary

Contracts IT is seeking an experienced In-Service Support Operations Manager for a defence systems project based in Bristol with a hybrid pattern (60% onsite). The role combines day-to-day BAU operations management with hands-on technical and service support responsibilities across two teams, ensuring performance against contractual milestones and safety standards in a complex defence environment.

You will work closely with an in-service support team and engineers, supervise stock and logistics

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support the effective management and in-service support of complex defence systems and equipment.

The role sits across two teams, working closely with an in-service support team that provides detailed technical expertise and supports wider operational activities. You will be responsible for ensuring that operational requirements, contractual milestones, standards and service performance are effectively managed.

This is a hands-on role combining day-to-day operational management (BAU) with technical and service support responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate operational activities relating to complex defence equipment and systems in service.
• Work closely with technical and engineering teams to ensure effective in-service support.
• Monitor and manage contract performance, milestones and deliverables.
• Carry out service surveillance to ensure agreed standards and requirements are being maintained.
• Oversee stock control, inventory and associated operational requirements.
• Identify and manage operational issues, risks and dependencies.
• Ensure activities are delivered in accordance with relevant procedures, standards and contractual requirements.
• Provide operational oversight and technical support across the relevant teams.
• Work with stakeholders to ensure equipment and support services remain effective throughout their service life.
• Review performance and ensure any issues are escalated and addressed appropriately.
• Support continuous improvement across operational processes and service delivery.
• Quickly develop an understanding of the operational environment and become effective in the role.
