Job summary

LHH in the UK is seeking a part-time solicitor to join a small in-house legal team. Based in either Glasgow or Cardiff, the role is three days a week with hybrid work after probation.

The workload mirrors a full-time position, focusing on commercial contracts and related compliance. Day-to-day involves reviewing and marking up agreements, ensuring smooth progression of documents, and advising on contract and regulatory risk.

Qualifications

• Understand contract and commercial law and how compliance works in practice.
• Construction contracts exposure would be helpful.
• Able to draft properly without extensive checking.
• Can juggle multiple tasks and ask for input when needed.
• Explain legal points clearly to non-lawyers.
• Take a measured approach to risk rather than reflexive caution.

Job description

An established UK business with offices around the country and work overseas is adding a part-time solicitor to its small in-house legal team. You can be based in either Glasgow or Cardiff.

Part-time roles at this level are usually a full-time workload with a discount attached. This one is not. It is a newly created position, scoped from the outset as three days, brought in to give an experienced General Counsel some proper support rather than to replace someone who has left.

The work is commercial contracts and the compliance that sits around them.

Day to day:

• Reviewing and marking up client and supplier agreements
• Keeping documents moving, chasing comments and getting things over the line
• Flagging where the business is exposed on contract, insurance and regulatory risk
• Drafting the paperwork that sits behind all of it
• Being a sensible, approachable person for colleagues to come to for a steer

What matters to them:

• You understand contract and commercial law and how compliance works in practice
• Construction contracts exposure would be helpful
• You can draft properly without someone checking every line
• You can hold several things at once and ask when you need input
• You explain legal points clearly to people who are not lawyers
• You are measured about risk rather than reflexively cautious
• They are open on level and on how you got here. Solicitors and legal executives are equally welcome, and the route to qualification matters less than how you work.

Package:

• £40,000 to £55,000 full-time equivalent, pro-rated for three days (approximately £24,000 to £33,000 actual)
• Three days a week, Glasgow or Cardiff
• Hybrid once you are through probation, roughly half your time in the office, with flexibility
