Job summary

Northern Gas and Power is seeking a qualified solicitor to lead commercial disputes in-house in Gateshead. You will own disputes from strategy through to resolution, manage your own caseload, and advise on regulatory and commercial risk across the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) or equivalent and qualified solicitor admitted by the SRA.
• Proven litigation and dispute resolution experience.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide practical, strategic legal advice.

Responsibilities

• Leading and managing disputes and litigation end-to-end, including research, case materials, and strategy development.
• Drafting legal documents, pleadings, court submissions, and participating in mediation/arbitration/settlement negotiations.
• Providing commercial and corporate law guidance to departments across the business.
• Monitoring case law, statutory changes, and regulatory developments to minimise legal risk.
• Managing relationships with external counsel and panel firms; instructing barristers as needed.
• Advising on post‑termination restrictive covenants, non‑compete, and non‑solicitation obligations.
• Supporting management of professional indemnity and insurance claims, including renewals.
