Job description

Join SMI as an Import Purchasing Coordinator

Play a key role in handling global purchasing, supporting smooth product supply, and collaborating with a passionate team at our Petersfield head office.

Our Procurement Team is growing, and we are seeking a new Import Purchasing Coordinator to coordinate import buying and maintain supply chain efficiency.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our modern Petersfield head office.

What will I be doing?

As an Import Purchasing Coordinator, you will manage the day-to-day purchasing and import activities for all product lines within your assigned category, focusing on overseas manufacturers. Your responsibilities include overseeing the end-to-end buying process, from placing purchase orders with international suppliers to coordinating inbound shipments and ensuring timely deliveries.

Your duties will include:
  • Import Purchasing & Order Management: managing forecasts, placing and tracking purchase orders, managing substitute orders, communicating schedules, expediting shipments, overseeing inbound shipments, maintaining data accuracy, and negotiating rates.
  • Customs Compliance & Documentation: reviewing customs entries, validating commodity codes, managing freight and customs paperwork, and maintaining compliance documents.
  • Inventory & Stock Forecast Accuracy: maintaining optimal stock levels, ensuring accurate receipt dates, notifying teams of delays, and updating inbound quantities.
  • System & Data Management: updating tracking systems, exporting backup files, inputting metrics, supporting data queries, and maintaining product codes in ERP.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Issue Resolution: maintaining communication with relevant teams, tracking supplier performance, contributing to process improvements, and supporting category tasks.
