Job summary

SMART Education Recruitment in Wolverhampton is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Autism and other needs in a long-term, full-time role starting October 2026. You will work Monday to Friday during school hours, contributing to a stable, engaging learning environment.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, adapting activities to individual abilities while collaborating with teachers and SEND specialists to help pupils thrive and gain independence throughout the school day.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience with Autism is highly desirable.
  • Previous work in mainstream or specialist education settings.
  • Confident supporting pupils both 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willing to obtain one.
  • Ability to provide references covering your most recent 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Help pupils access lessons and classroom activities confidently
  • Adapt resources and activities to individual abilities and needs
  • Encourage communication, interaction and ongoing engagement
  • Promote confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Support positive behaviour and maintain established classroom routines
  • Follow individual support plans and EHCP outcomes
  • Help maintain safeguarding, safety, and inclusive learning environments
