Job summary

The Anchorage School District is seeking qualified school counselors to join a pool via open recruitment. The counselor will work with staff, parents, and the community to foster a supportive climate through a comprehensive developmental counseling program, promoting academic success.

Requires a valid Alaska Type C certificate with endorsement in school counseling, internship experience, and ability to coordinate counseling services, curriculum delivery, and referrals.

Qualifications

• Valid Alaska Type C special services certificate with endorsement as a school counselor, guidance and counseling, or school social work.
• Completion of a school-based counseling internship with school age children.
• Preferred: experience in behavioral and academic interventions with youth.

Responsibilities

• Schedules students into appropriate academic course placements.
• Provides counseling and educational guidance to students.
• Acts as student advocate and consultant to staff and parents.
• Delivers counseling curriculum and classroom guidance.
• Supports teachers with classroom interventions and positive behavior planning.
• Collaborates with families and external agencies as needed.
