Job summary

Placements24's client, a dedicated rehabilitation center in Randburg, seeks a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor to provide therapeutic support, assessments, and evidence-based treatments for clients with substance use disorders.

The role includes developing individualized treatment plans, conducting group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery and community reintegration.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree/diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
• Professional registration with HPCSA or SACSSP preferred.
• Minimum 3 years experience as Substance Abuse Counselor or similar.
• Experience in assessments, treatment planning, and individual/group therapy.
• Knowledge of addiction, recovery principles, co-occurring disorders.
• Excellent communication, empathy, and active listening.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviors and crises.
• Proficient in clinical documentation.
• Compassionate, non-judgmental client care.
• Valid driver's license preferred for community liaison.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' substance use history, mental health status, and social background.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's needs.
• Facilitate individual counseling sessions to explore issues related to addiction and recovery.
• Lead group therapy sessions focusing on relapse prevention, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
• Provide psychoeducation on addiction, recovery processes, and mental health.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including medical staff and other therapists.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client records and progress notes.
• Engage in crisis intervention and provide support during acute situations.
• Connect clients with community resources and support networks for post-treatment care.
• Stay current with best practices, research, and therapeutic modalities in addiction counseling.
