Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a Psychology Graduate to join a friendly one-form entry primary school in North Shields as a SEND Teaching Assistant. You will support a Year1 pupil on a 1:1 basis and help with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement throughout the school day.

When the pupil is not in class you will assist with the wider Year1 group, deliver small group interventions and support the teacher and SENDCO. Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, pay: £92.63–£95 per day, Start: ASAP.

Qualifications

• Psychology degree or closely related subject required.
• Genuine interest in SEND, behaviour and child development.
• Patient, resilient and emotionally intelligent.
• Ability to stay calm when faced with challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to get involved in school life.
• Experience with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year1 pupil.
• Support emotional regulation and behaviour management.
• Support the wider Year1 class when pupil not in school.
• Help pupil access classroom learning and routines.
• Build positive relationships based on trust and consistency.
• Work alongside the class teacher and SENDCO.
• Encourage confidence, independence and positive social interactions.
• Promote a calm and engaging learning environment.
