Job summary

Peopleplus is seeking a compassionate Learning Support Practitioner to join our Prison Education team. You will support learners with ALN in a prison environment, helping them overcome barriers and build confidence.

Working with tutors and education staff, you’ll tailor support plans, monitor wellbeing, and help learners progress. You’ll contribute to a whole-prison approach while maintaining safeguarding and accurate records.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND or ALN.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload and maintain records.
• Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice.
• Organised, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good IT skills and administrative capability.
• Passion for supporting learners to achieve and overcome barriers.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with learners and understand their needs.
• Provide tailored in-class or one-to-one support for learners with ALN.
• Inspire and help learners build confidence, independence and self-advocacy.
• Monitor wellbeing and track progress through reviews.
• Develop and maintain course-specific support plans.
• Review and update support plans; assist with transitions between establishments.
• Use assessment tools to tailor learning strategies.
• Record and manage all support documents in MoJ systems.
• Collaborate with tutors, prison teams and healthcare colleagues.
• Support a whole-prison approach to ALN and SEND.
• Assist with reasonable adjustments for assessments where required.
• Maintain safe, inclusive learning environments; ensure safeguarding and contractual compliance.
