Match the approved caption to the right image

A website may display photographs, diagrams or simple graphics with a caption supplied by the content team. If a file is replaced or moved, the caption can end up beside the wrong image.

The Image Caption Consistency Assistant checks assigned online pages against an approved image-and-caption list. You would identify mismatches and make limited corrections where the team’s process permits. This remote administrative job does not involve designing graphics, writing new claims about a product or deciding which image the organisation should use.

The source of truth is the material the content owner has approved. You would compare the page image, its file reference and the visible caption with that source. A photograph may be visually similar to another, so a file name or reference is more dependable than a guess. Where the approved list itself is unclear, ask which pairing is intended. Publishing a confident-looking caption under the wrong image can mislead visitors even when every sentence is spelled correctly.

The check on a live page

You might open an assigned page, compare each image-caption pair, and note the exact location of a mismatch. If the editor allows you to make the approved correction, you would update the caption and preview the result. Then check the displayed page to see that the change took effect and that other captions did not shift. If the issue is a missing image, a broken media file or an unapproved new caption, route it to the appropriate content or technical colleague rather than inventing a replacement.

This role has a different purpose from testing links. The visitor sees a visual and an explanation together; the connection between them needs to be accurate. A useful review note identifies the page, image reference and caption currently displayed, followed by the approved pairing. That lets a content owner act without searching a long page for 'the second picture'. A checked page that is already correct should be recorded as such.

Keep a list of pages checked, including those where no issue was found, so the team can distinguish an untouched page from a verified one. If one page contains several similar visuals, use their references rather than descriptions such as 'the blue image'. This gives the colleague making a correction a reliable starting point and reduces the chance of fixing the wrong caption.

The work can involve basic customer service thinking: a visitor should not have to guess whether a caption refers to the image above or below it. It also uses office administration skills in file comparison and recordkeeping. Previous website experience is helpful but not required. Beginners who can compare details, follow a supplied list and learn an online editor are welcome. The employer will teach its content system and approval boundaries. No coding or graphic-design qualification is needed.

You should avoid editing descriptive text based on personal taste. Where accessibility text has a separate purpose, follow the content team’s instruction rather than copying a marketing caption into that field automatically.
