Position: Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician
Southern Water is recruiting an Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician to support the processing of water for public use.
As an ICA Technician, you will maintain, repair, modify, configure, commission, calibrate, and install all plant instrumentation, control, and monitoring equipment, shutdown systems, alarms, and telemetry across the Southern Water region in the wastewater function to ensure efficient and effective operation.
Your responsibilities include:
- Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation, and programming in technical aspects such as telemetry, flow meters, detectors, control systems, turbidity, and other measurement meters.
- Implement process improvements via control system modifications, diagnosing and fixing complex process and control system faults.
- Conduct planned maintenance and calibrate instrumentation to Southern Water standards to ensure reliability and accuracy.
- Respond to instrumentation faults within Southern Water parameters, as guided by the Regional Control Centre.
- Undertake investigative work on instruments and process problems at wastewater plants, identifying faults and implementing remedial actions.
- Complete documentation accurately and promptly to maintain internal change control standards, ISO9001 accreditation, and other systems.
- Implement control system modifications from operational requests to improve process control or compliance.
- Coach and train team members to develop their skills.
Skills and experience needed:
- NVQ3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a time-served apprenticeship.
- Experience in a process-oriented industry such as water utility, petrochemical, electricity, manufacturing, or similar.
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Experience with instrumentation, control, or automation.
- Strong documentation and regulatory compliance skills.
- Collaborative attitude with good communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and growth.
- Full, current UK driving license.
