Role: Instrumentation, Control, and Automation Technician/Engineer

Location: Multiple locations across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire

Contract Type: Permanent

Travel: Multiple sites in Southern England with a company-supplied van

Hours: 38 hours per week

Job Description:

Southern Water is seeking an Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician/Engineer to support water processing for public use across the South Coast. Responsibilities include maintaining, repairing, modifying, configuring, commissioning, calibrating, and installing plant instrumentation, including PLC and SCADA systems, alarms, and telemetry, to ensure efficient operations.

This role involves occasional paid out-of-hours work and on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation, and programming of telemetry, PLC, SCADA, and measurement meters.
  • Implementing process improvements through control system modifications and diagnosing complex faults.
  • Conducting planned maintenance and calibration to meet Southern Water standards.
  • Responding to instrumentation faults as guided by the Regional Control Centre.
  • Investigating and resolving instrument and process issues at wastewater plants.
  • Accurately completing documentation to maintain standards and compliance.
  • Implementing control system modifications to improve processes or ensure compliance.
  • Training and coaching team members.

Skills and Experience:

  • HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent apprenticeship.
  • Experience in process-oriented industries such as water utilities, petro-chemical, electricity, or manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with PLC and SCADA systems (e.g., Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Wonderware InTouch/AVEVA).
  • Good documentation and regulatory compliance skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and development.
  • Valid UK driving license.
