Job description

About The Role and Team

TheQuantum Integration and Validation (QIV) Team is responsible for the measurement, characterisation, and system hardware integration of the integrated circuits which operate at deep-cryogenic temperatures and interface with qubits. This role is a unique chance to work at the bleeding edge of technology development where you will investigate and optimise the performance of innovative circuitsand experimental quantum dot devicesto tackle the engineering challenge of implementing a large-scale quantum computer in silicon.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be an early employee at a start-up shaping the future of quantum computing. There are vast opportunities for professional growth and to make an impact within the company.

As an IC Validation Engineer, the position will suit someone with a strong background in the following areas and the ability to flexibly apply and combine them on a daily basis: practical electronics test and measurement, experimental design, statistics and data analysis, analogue and mixed-signal circuit operation principles, and CMOS device physics and process. No background in quantum physics is required.

Our Team

Since 2021 our team has been listed every year in the “Top 100 Startups worth watching”in the EE Times, and our technology breakthroughs have been featured in The Telegraph, BBC and the New Statesman. Our founders are internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University who have pioneered the development of qubits and quantum computing architectures. Our chairman is the co-founder of Cadence and Synopsys, the two leading companies in the area of Electronic Design Automation. We’re backed by a team of top-tier investors including Bosch Ventures, Porsche SE, Sony Innovation Fund, Oxford Sciences Innovations, INKEF Capital and Octopus Ventures, and we have so far raised over £62 million in equity and grant funding.

We bring together the brightest quantum engineers, integrated circuit (IC) engineers, quantum computing theoreticians and software engineers to create a unique, world-leading team, working together closely to maximise our combined expertise. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary culture is an ideal fit for anyone who thrives in a cutting-edge research and development environment focused on tackling big challenges and contributing to the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology.

Our team of 100+ is based in Oxford and London, with a centre of mass in our Islington lab.

Functions of the Role
  • Carry cryo-CMOS integrated circuit designs through full product test lifecycle: pre-silicon test planning; bring-up and optimisation; inter-die variability studies; and product support (where required)
  • High-quality documentation of experimental design, measurement data, analysis, and conclusions at each step
  • Develop efficient and automated measurement and analysis routines to provide rapid and standardised feedback on new ICdesigns, driving faster design iteration
  • Characterise and model electronic and/or quantum device behaviours at deep-cryogenic temperatures, empowering confident design
  • Highly effective hardware and software debugging

Experience - Essentials
  • Familiarity with bench-level electronic test equipment such as SMUs, VNAs, amplifiers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Proficient in reading circuit schematics
  • Strong intuition and methodical approach to circuit debugging
  • Advanced programming and data analytics ability
  • Knowledge of Python, C, or similar programming language
  • Degree qualification in Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high-level of self-management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience - Desirable
  • High-frequency device characterization experience (RF and/or noise)
  • Experience in automated digital circuit test engineering
  • Prior experience with cryogenic electronics
  • Advanced statistical analysis expertise
  • Knowledge of SOI processes and fabrication technologies
  • Expertise on CMOS process variation trends
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and libraries
  • Quantum physics background

Benefits
  • Be part of a creative, world-leading team
  • Competitive salary and share options scheme
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Group private medical insurance scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Flexible working
