Job summary

Fort Vale Engineering Limited offers an IT Support & Infrastructure Apprenticeship. You will work four days a week on-site at Fort Vale (BB12 7ND) and attend Bolton College (BL3 5BG) one day per week, gaining hands-on IT experience while studying a Level 3 IT Solutions Technician course.

The role focuses on day-to-day IT operations, supporting desktops, servers, networking, backups and cyber security, with projects and CPD to boost your career in technology.

Fort Vale Engineering are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic I.T Support & Infrastructure Apprentice to join our growing IT team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in information technology while gaining hands‑on experience within a leading global engineering and manufacturing company.

Year 1 rate of pay would be £8.49 per hour.

Salary can be discussed at interview

Training course IT solutions technician (level 3)

Hours Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 16:30pmFridays 7:30am – 12:30pm.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you'll do at work

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day running of the company’s IT systems and infrastructure, helping to ensure employees across the business receive excellent technical support.

Your role will include:

  • Provide hands‑on IT support to users (desktops, laptops, printers.)
  • Help setup and maintain PCs, servers and network equipment.
  • Work with real business systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues and learn how to fix them.
  • Support backups, cyber security and system monitoring.
  • Assist with IT projects (upgrades, rollouts, improvements.)

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

  • Work at any stage of the solution lifecycle.
  • Prioritise tasks to work within agreed project plans.
  • Ensure resources are used efficiently and responsibly.
  • Design solutions to meet client and business requirements.
  • Identify technical solutions using creative and critical thinking.
  • Install hardware or software, either physically or virtually.
  • Search and use different types of data or information sources.
  • Test and evaluate performance, functionality, and usability of solutions to ensure compliance with customer and project requirements.
  • Deploy and implement solutions, supporting change management practices.
  • Create and maintain documentation in accordance with best practice and organisational requirements.
  • Support multiple contemporary or legacy solutions to required levels of service.
  • Apply organisational policies and legislation in relation to security requirements, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Communicate using a variety of tools and approaches, adapting language for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Apply continuous professional development CPD to support their own learning, business needs and technical developments.
  • Work at any stage of the solution lifecycle.

The apprentice will work 4 days per week at Fort Vale (BB12 7ND) and attend Bolton College( BL3 5BG) 1 day per week.

Requirements

GCSE in:

  • maths (grade 9-4)
