The University of Surrey in Guildford seeks a UX-UI Designer within the Digital Workspace and AI Solutions department to embed user-centred design, accessibility, and quality across the design and development lifecycle.

You will lead user research, journey mapping, wireframes and prototypes; translate insights into accessible interfaces; design front-end components with HTML, CSS and JavaScript; and contribute to the design system while coaching colleagues.

Qualifications

• Experience in UX/UI design including user research, journey mapping, wireframing and prototyping.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards, WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams including developers, content designers and business analysts.
• Experience contributing to or governing a design system.
• Ability to facilitate usability testing and synthesize findings into design iterations.
• Coaching or advisory experience to support colleagues in user-centred design practices.

Responsabilités

• Lead user-centred design activities including user research, journey mapping, persona development, wireframing and rapid prototyping.
• Translate research and analytics insights into accessible, visually coherent interfaces aligned with University standards.
• Design and build front-end components using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Ensure that user experience designs can be delivered as technically viable and maintainable solutions.
• Embed accessibility best practice, including WCAG 2.2 AA, into design and development approaches and recommend improvements.
• Collaborate with application owners, developers, content designers, business analysts and stakeholders to clarify needs and agree solutions.
• Contribute to the development and governance of the University design system, reusable UI components and interaction patterns.
• Plan and facilitate usability testing, synthesize findings and iterate designs.
• Provide UX/UI advice and coaching to colleagues to support a culture of user-centred design and continuous improvement.
• Keep current with UX methods, interaction design, accessibility standards and emerging digital technologies.
