Job summary

Sheffield City Council seeks a Youth Justice Officer for the City of Sheffield – Children, Young People and Families. The post is hybrid (office, home and community-based) with flexible hours including evenings and weekends as part of a rota (8am–8pm, Monday to Saturday).

You will work in child-centred practice, collaborate with families and partner agencies, develop and review support plans, and represent the service in court.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and families in a professional setting with trauma-informed, strengths-based and restorative practice.
• Experience of undertakings assessments, analysing information and developing plans to support positive outcomes, manage risk and promote safety.
• Strong understanding of the criminal justice system, child development, safeguarding, victim awareness and effective interventions to reduce offending and keep communities safe.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and organisational skills.
• A positive, solution-focused attitude and commitment to empowering children while promoting safety of victims and communities.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as part of a rota.

Responsibilities

• Champion Trauma-Informed and Restorative Practice: Build trusting relationships with children and families, recognising trauma and adversity, and supporting positive change through restorative approaches.
• Assess, Plan and Co-Produce Support: Complete high-quality assessments and develop plans reflecting each child’s strengths, needs, aspirations, risks and protective factors.
• Represent the Service in Court: Prepare written reports and assist the court with sentencing, revocation and breach hearings.
• Promote Inclusion and Address Disproportionality: Ensure equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the work.
• Multi-Agency Partnership: Work with professionals and agencies to ensure access to right support at the right time, managing risk and wellbeing.
• Promote Victim and Community Safety: Address factors linked to offending while protecting victims and communities.
• Reflective Practice and Professional Growth: Engage in supervision and development to improve outcomes.
