Job summary

SoCode Limited in the United Kingdom is seeking a Technical Author to develop, write and edit documentation for hardware and software products. You will translate complex technical information into clear content, working closely with engineering and product teams to ensure up-to-date materials.

The role requires strong writing/editing, experience with FrameMaker or MadCap Flare, familiarity with HTML/CSS, and CMS usage.

Qualifications

Experience producing technical documentation in software or hardware environments.
Experience in an Agile development environment.
Experience in scientific or engineering environments.
Strong writing and editing skills with Microsoft Office and documentation software.
Experience with FrameMaker, Flare or similar.
Familiarity with version control systems.
Experience with content management systems.
Basic understanding of HTML, CSS and web technologies.
Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for customers.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Comfortable managing deadlines and conflicting priorities.
Proactive in improving documentation and customer experience.

Responsibilities

Develop, write and edit technical documentation including user manuals and installation instructions.
Translate complex technical information into clear, accessible content.
Collaborate with engineering and product teams to gather information and keep docs up to date.
Review and update existing documentation to reflect current product information.
Create diagrams and visual aids to support content.
Work with designers to integrate visuals into docs.
Explore video/animation to communicate complex information.
Ensure documentation meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Test products and tools to verify content accuracy.
Manage doc schedules across project timelines and deadlines.
Publish content using CMS and documentation systems.
Review others' docs for consistency and accuracy.
Contribute to training materials and e-learning content.
Participate in peer reviews and provide feedback.
Identify and suggest process improvements.
