Job summary

ECMWF in Reading seeks a Team Leader (A3) for the Workflow Design and Integration Team to lead and evolve operational forecasting workflows, ensuring reliability and seamless integration of advances into production.

You will provide technical leadership across software engineering, high-performance computing and ML while coordinating with colleagues in Forecasts, Research and Computing to deliver robust, scalable workflows in a 24/7 environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or coordinating technical work in a complex software, scientific computing or operational environment
• Experience in managing people or taking on formal team leadership and people management
• Experience in software development, workflow management or operational systems in UNIX/Linux
• Strong understanding of operational workflows including software integration, scheduling, data-processing pipelines, archiving, post-processing, monitoring or dissemination
• Knowledge of software engineering practices (version control, code review, testing, documentation) and Python or similar programming language
• Desirable knowledge of HPC, large-scale scientific software, ML-enabled forecasting workflows and reproducibility approaches

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and motivate the Workflow Design and Integration Team by setting objectives and priorities, supporting effective delivery, and coaching and developing team members
• Set direction for the design, testing, implementation and support of ECMWF’s operational forecasts and data-generation workflows
• Oversee the performance of operational suites and the resolution of problems, including second-line support and on-call arrangements
• Lead the team’s contribution to the end-to-end Research-to-Operations process, ensuring developments are tested, documented and ready for operations
• Oversee change, configuration, release and incident management, promoting strong engineering practices
• Represent the team within ECMWF and externally with Member and Co-operating States; communicate upcoming changes and resource plans
