Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Solutions Architect to shape and deliver complex technology solutions across public services. You will turn business needs into practical designs, accompany projects from exploration through implementation, and ensure security, cost, and operability are balanced.

The role supports a flexible hybrid model with regular Chelmsford office involvement. You will work within a broad technology estate, collaborating with delivery teams, service colleagues and suppliers

Qualifications

• Substantial practical experience in solution architecture.
• Ability to design and guide complex solutions through delivery.
• Experience with TOGAF or equivalent in evolving environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support end-to-end solution design with cross-functional teams.
• Provide architecture support from exploratory to implementation stages.
• Create clear designs and roadmaps for systems and data integration.
• Balance user needs, cost, risk and technical quality in decisions.
• Apply architectural principles and standards across services.
• Assess options and present evidence-based recommendations.
• Support business cases and supplier selections aligned with ECC direction.
• Build trusted stakeholder relationships to mature architecture practice.
