Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking a Solutions Architect for a permanent, full-time role in Chelmsford. The role offers flexible hybrid working, requiring attendance at our Chelmsford office around 2 to 3 days per month, with remote options available as needed.

You will design end-to-end solutions across a broad technology estate, balancing user needs, data, security and cost. Collaboration with delivery teams and suppliers will shape pragmatic, deliverable architecture for public services.

Qualifications

• Substantial practical experience in solution architecture.
• Strong track record designing and guiding complex solutions through delivery.
• Ability to understand service and user needs and turn ambiguity into deliverable designs.
• Experience applying architecture frameworks like TOGAF.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the design of end-to-end solutions with business, data, security, and technical specialists.
• Support delivery teams at different maturity stages from exploration to implementation.
• Produce clear designs, options and roadmaps for services, data, integrations and tech.
• Help teams trade off cost, risk, and quality; document decisions clearly.
• Apply ECC’s architectural principles and standards to promote simplification and reuse.
