Job summary

AMD in Cambridge is seeking a Silicon Design Engineer to contribute to high-performance CPU microarchitecture modelling and analysis. You will work with experienced engineers to develop cycle-accurate performance models, analyze workloads, and correlate RTL to models while exploring hardware features.

You will apply strong C++ and scripting skills, understand CPU architecture, and collaborate across teams to deliver impactful processor innovations in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong C++ programming and scripting experience.
• Experience in CPU performance modelling or processor architecture.
• Familiarity with performance analysis and cycle-accurate simulation.
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance cycle-accurate CPU microarchitecture performance models.
• Analyse workloads, execution traces, and performance data to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
• Support RTL-to-performance-model correlation and investigate differences between models and hardware implementations.
• Evaluate microarchitecture features and quantify their impact on CPU performance.
• Collaborate with performance, architecture, RTL design, and software teams on CPU feature development.
• Develop tools, scripts, and methodologies that improve performance analysis and modelling efficiency.
• Build technical expertise across CPU pipelines, memory systems, and other core microarchitecture components.
