Job summary

BRE is seeking a Junior Developer to join its Digital Services team in Watford. You will work in a Scrum team on BRE’s web-based applications, helping deliver features and improvements for platforms like BREEAM and SmartWaste.

You’ll grow under a collaborative, agile environment, taking ownership of tasks and expanding your skills while delivering high-quality software. The role offers a balanced learning curve with increasing responsibility, within a hybrid work setup near Watford.

Qualifications

• Understanding of web application development.
• Experience with JavaScript and jQuery.
• Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including databases, stored procedures and views.
• Understanding of RESTful web services and APIs.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming principles and development methodologies.
• Exposure to design patterns such as dependency injection and service-oriented architecture.
• Understanding of ORM frameworks.
• Familiarity with Agile development environments and Scrum practices.
• Experience testing software and supporting quality assurance activities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work.
• Effective organisation and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and improve web-based applications and services.
• Collaborate with Developers, Product Owners and Designers within an Agile Scrum team.
• Translate requirements into secure, robust and high-quality code.
• Contribute to sprint planning, estimation and delivery activities.
• Develop and maintain database components, including stored procedures and views.
• Create and consume RESTful web services and APIs.
• Support testing activities, including creating and executing test plans.
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects and technical issues.
• Provide regular updates on progress, risks and delivery timelines.
• Follow BRE development standards, processes and best practices.
