Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting an Accommodation Options Officer for a busy local authority Housing Team in East London on an initial 3-month contract. The role focuses on preventing homelessness, moving residents from supported accommodation to private rented housing, negotiating with landlords, and coordinating emergency placements.

You will work in a hybrid setup, requiring two days in the office and 36 hours per week.

Qualifications

• What you will need: experience in homelessness prevention, housing options, temporary accommodation or private rented sector move-on services.
• Experience supporting households affected by homelessness or rough sleeping with understanding of causes and barriers.
• Knowledge of PartVII of the Housing Act1996 including homelessness duties and accommodation assessments.
• Experience securing private rented sector accommodation and negotiating with landlords.
• Strong case management, communication and problem-solving skills for complex cases with vulnerable residents and partners.

Responsibilities

• Work with residents with a history of rough sleeping to facilitate move-on to private rented housing.
• Deliver homelessness prevention services, negotiate with landlords, sustain tenancies and identify solutions.
• Assess household circumstances, affordability, support needs and suitability per Housing Act PartVII.
• Arrange emergency and temporary accommodation placements meeting statutory duties.
• Collaborate with landlords, providers, internal teams and agencies to secure housing solutions.
