Job summary

DC Thomson is seeking a curious Software Engineer in the UK to join our engineering team and help build scalable customer engagement systems. You’ll work across frontend and backend with React, Node.js, GraphQL and modern databases, collaborating with product, data and business teams.

You’ll explore AI-enabled approaches and contribute to engineering best practices while delivering high-quality, data-driven solutions that impact audiences across our media brands.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience developing software within modern engineering environments.
• Strong experience building full stack applications using React and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript for modern web apps.
• Experience designing, building and consuming APIs, including GraphQL.
• Experience with at least one relational database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server).
• Experience developing, integrating and maintaining backend services and data-driven applications.
• Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practices.
• Experience with source control, automated testing and CI/CD.
• Collaborative, with ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to continuous learning and technical growth.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain software applications and integrations across our customer engagement ecosystem.
• Build and enhance personalised customer experiences and profiling capabilities.
• Develop backend systems managing data flows between platforms.
• Work with Iterable to deliver email and customer communications.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and business teams to deliver value.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software and system issues.
• Contribute to best practices, automation, code quality and CI efforts.
• Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
• Explore AI-powered tools to improve engineering and outcomes.
