Job summary

Free-Work is seeking an experienced Front End Developer to join a major Public Sector digital programme based in London.

You will contribute to building modern frontend interfaces using Vue.js and React, collaborating with designers, researchers and engineers to deliver user-centred services. The role includes developing reusable components, ensuring accessibility and mentoring junior developers within an Agile team. Hybrid working in London is offered with ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience as a Front End Developer/Engineer/Software Developer.
• Hands-on experience with Vue.js and/or React.
• Understanding of modern frontend development principles and web standards.
• Experience developing reusable, maintainable frontend components.
• Knowledge of accessibility and accessible web development.
• Experience applying accessibility standards in design and development.
• Experience testing frontend applications and user interfaces.
• Strong understanding of user-centred design and services around user needs.
• Experience in multidisciplinary Agile teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience collaborating with designers, researchers, developers and other disciplines.
• Ability to coach and mentor less experienced developers.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Work with designers, researchers and developers to build designs and prototypes based on user needs.
• Develop frontend components that form part of wider digital products and services.
• Build modern UIs using Vue.js and/or React.
• Write clean, well-tested code following modern web standards.
• Build interfaces in line with predefined design and development standards.
• Advise on accessibility testing and testing approaches.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and foster strong working relationships.
• Coach, mentor and support junior developers.
• Participate in Agile delivery and address issues via team health checks.
• Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Adapt communication to audience and situation.
• Facilitate technical discussions when needed.
• Identify and resolve issues in team dynamics.
• Understand wider impact of technical and design decisions.
• Make informed decisions across levels of risk and complexity.
