Job summary

SOCOTEC UK Building and Real Estate division seeks an inspiring Director of Structural & Civil Engineering to lead a growing, multidisciplinary team across the UK. You will own the business, drive technical excellence, and implement a growth strategy in close collaboration with the Director of Engineering and senior leadership.

You will manage people, governance, and client relationships, expand Civil Engineering capabilities, and ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly and profitably.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IStructE, ICE or equivalent.
• Significant experience in structural engineering consultancy, including leading teams and delivering complex projects.
• Proven track record of managing a structural engineering business with commercial accountability.
• Strong technical knowledge of structural and civil engineering design, assessment and construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop SOCOTEC's Structural & Civil Engineering business unit, taking full ownership of its people, technical delivery, commercial performance and sustainable growth.
• Provide visible leadership, set direction and priorities to enable performance and collaboration.
• Translate divisional strategy into objectives, plans and delivery priorities with senior leaders.
• Grow Civil Engineering offering and market presence alongside existing structures work.
• Own the business unit's commercial performance: revenue, profitability, WIP, and forecasting.
• Drive business development and strengthen client relationships with opportunities pipeline.
• Lead bids, proposals and ensure robust commercial terms and resourcing.
• Provide senior technical leadership, governance, quality assurance and risk management.
• Collaborate with international partners to win and deliver projects and maximise profitability.
• Champion health & safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
