Milton Keynes City Council is recruiting a Development Services Officer to join our Planning service. You’ll support planning applications through validation, assessment of minor applications, record keeping and advice.

You’ll provide clear guidance, help ensure applications are handled accurately and efficiently, and contribute to improvements across Development Management. This role may be suitable for home working following an assessment, with a minimum of one day per week in the office or

Qualifications

• GCSE (Maths, English and Geography) or equivalent required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook; willingness to learn planning software.
• Clear communication in plain English; ability to explain technical information to customers.
• Strong customer focus with clear, respectful written and spoken communication.
• Well organised and able to meet deadlines; initiative to seek guidance when needed.
• Collaborative approach and the ability to work independently within a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear planning process advice to customers, colleagues and external bodies.
• Check and validate planning applications in line with national and local requirements.
• Arrange publicity and consultations; identify constraints; maintain registers and records.
• Calculate and check planning application fees and local charges; keep financial records.
• Assess minor applications and Certificates of Lawful Development; prepare reports and recommendations.
• Support planning enforcement, service improvements and IT systems in Planning.
