Job summary

HSB is seeking a Data Engineer in Birkenhead with hybrid working and 35 hours per week. You will design and deliver scalable data pipelines on SQL Server and Azure, build modular data components, and own end-to-end data solutions across deployment, monitoring and issue resolution.

The role requires strong T-SQL, data modelling, ETL/ELT knowledge, and experience with Git and Azure data tools. Collaboration and continuous improvement are key aspects of the position.

Qualifications

• Experience with SQL Server and T-SQL development.
• Design and build modular reusable data components.
• Understanding of data modelling, schema design and performance.
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data pipelines.
• Experience using Git and version control.
• Exposure to Azure data tools like Azure SQL, Data Factory or Synapse.
• Understanding of SDLC principles.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Experience supporting SQL Server environments.
• Exposure to cloud-based data platforms (Azure).
• Experience in structured development or delivery environments.
• Involvement in system improvements or modernisation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, high-quality data pipelines and models across SQL Server and Azure platforms.
• Develop simple, modular, reusable data components following best practices to enhance maintainability, performance, and governance.
• Own end-to-end delivery of data solutions, including deployment, monitoring, and proactive resolution of issues within Azure DevOps environments.
• Drive continuous improvement through transparent communication, code reviews, constructive feedback, and adoption of modern data engineering practices.
