Job summary

DATS Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join a Capenhurst-based team in Cheshire. The hybrid role offers up to 2 days of home working subject to business needs.

You will deliver control and instrumentation engineering solutions across a range of complex projects, from specification and design through testing, commissioning and customer delivery, with travel to European supplier sites and other customer locations.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering or related field.
Experience specifying or designing control systems for industrial facilities.
Ability to produce high-quality technical specifications and documentation.
Experience with subcontractors in a multinational environment.
Knowledge of PLC hardware, I/O, networking, and power supply requirements.
Understanding of control cabinet construction and compliance standards (UKCA, CE, UL).
Instrumentation design experience including measurement ranges and EMC considerations.
Knowledge of PLC programming standards.
Experience of SCADA design and configuration, including UI and alarms.
Practical equipment testing experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to travel to European supplier sites.

Responsibilities

Ensure all engineering activities meet health, safety and environmental standards.
Produce detailed technical specifications including equipment functional specs and control system logic.
Develop specifications and logic simulations for control system designs and performance.
Produce specifications for control system hardware.
Collaborate with subcontractors, reviewing design drawings and documentation.
Review supplier test specs and participate in factory acceptance testing.
Liaise with Section Head and engineers to ensure delivery.
Present technical information at design and technical reviews.
Support customer-facing activities presenting design information.
Analyze plant data to identify performance improvements.
Develop and maintain core reference design standards for control systems.
Contribute to proposals with schedules and cost forecasts.
Manage engineering deliverables and status reporting.
Travel to European suppliers and sites as required.
