Job summary

Technical Partners is partnering with a leading UK nuclear engineering organisation to recruit a Control & Instrumentation Engineer. The role covers the full lifecycle from concept to decommissioning, working on challenging energy projects and contributing to safety-critical assessments.

The role requires a degree in Control/Instrumentation Engineering, experience in a C&I environment, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent in Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in a C&I/instrumentation and control engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of IEC and BS standards.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings and engineering documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review C&I engineering documentation (specifications, design philosophies, I/O data sheets, loop diagrams).
  • Support development of control system architectures, including I/O allocation and networks.
  • Contribute to control room and HMI design activities.
  • Produce and review engineering drawings, reports and design documentation.
  • Support safety-related activities including HAZOP/HAZAN/SIL assessments and FMEA.
  • Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, legislation and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.

Salary: £42,000 - £52,000 DOE

Permanent | Full time | Flexible working

Hybrid / based in an office 3 days a week and be able to commute easily to Derby

Technical Partners are currently working with a leading engineering organisation operating within the UK nuclear sector, supporting the delivery of a range of technically challenging and high-profile projects.

We are looking to speak with experienced Control & Instrumentation Engineers who are looking for the opportunity to work across the full engineering lifecycle, from early concept and tendering through to detailed design, installation, commissioning and decommissioning.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled, multidisciplinary engineering environment where you will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while contributing to major projects within the nuclear industry.

The Role

As a Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across a variety of projects and will be involved in areas including:

  • Developing and reviewing C&I engineering documentation, including specifications, design philosophies, instrument data sheets and loop diagrams.
  • Supporting the development of control system architectures, including I/O allocation and communication networks.
  • Contributing to control room and HMI design activities.
  • Producing and reviewing engineering drawings, technical reports and design documentation.
  • Supporting safety-related activities including HAZOP, HAZAN, SIL assessments and FMEA.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant engineering standards, legislation and project requirements.
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, contractors and other key stakeholders.
  • Providing technical support throughout procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.
  • Working with clients and project stakeholders both remotely and on-site.
  • Managing your own workload and delivering high-quality engineering outputs to agreed timescales.
About You

We are keen to hear from Control & Instrumentation Engineers with a strong technical foundation and a genuine interest in working within the nuclear and highly regulated engineering sectors.

Ideally, you will have:
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience working within a C&I / instrumentation and control engineering environment.
  • Strong engineering judgement and an understanding of relevant IEC and BS standards.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation.
  • A proactive approach to technical development and continuous learning.

Experience within the nuclear, energy, process, defence or other highly regulated industries would be advantageous.
